This photo is a still capture of what is actually a GIF of me giving a thumbs up. Yes, really.
This used to be written in third-person. That now seems silly, so here we go…
I’m a storyteller and a self-described news junkie/social media butterfly based in Washington, D.C. I work as a reporter for E&E Publishing‘s Greenwire, E&E Daily and E&ENews PM, covering environment and energy news on and off Capitol Hill. Previously, I wrote feature stories and worked on the production side of Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper.
I’m a native Nevadan — born in Lake Tahoe, raised in Las Vegas, college-educated in Reno. This means I will unabashedly correct you if you say my state’s name wrong. On that note, I attended the University of Nevada’s Reynolds School of Journalism and worked at a lot of different places in the Silver State before leaving for the East Coast, including Insight Magazine, the Reno Gazette-Journal and the Online Nevada Encyclopedia.
While I love journalism, I consider myself a person first, journalist second. My life is filled with a smattering of things, including:
- singing in karaoke bars
- taking voice lessons and using my (very limited) musical background as a member of the Capitol Hill Chorale
- keeping the publishing industry alive by buying more books than anyone could possibly read
- being a curator at the Museum of Unnatural History/working with kids on their writing skills (yes, these two things are related)
- reviving my love of ballroom dancing
- drinking pina coladas and getting caught in the rain (both of these are true, but I only enjoy one)
