I had this e-mailed to me a while back. I don’t know where it originated from or who wrote it, but I feel like it’s one of those things that should be shared. It’s a little dated, but it’s hilarious and thoughtful advice for young journalists venturing out into the professional world for the first time nonetheless.
That, and I need something to keep me entertained while I wait for my video to upload.

After attending the first Reno-Tahoe WordCamp, I got to thinking about what personal branding is, thanks to Twelve Horses CEO David LaPlante‘s presentation.
I missed the first few minutes of his presentation, but I think he asked everyone to write down six words that they believed defined them. Later, he said, “A brand is an emotional collection.”
He showed off portraits of the Twelve Horses staff that exemplify who they are.
So, if my brand evokes an emotion and makes people want to connect with me, then what exactly is it?
Despite months of applying, I don’t have an internship this summer. I get it – the industry is tough right now, and I’m not the only journalism student in this boat.
So now what?
